Parking in Lisburn

Lisburn city centre is compact and walkable, so most visitors aim for the car parks clustered around Bow Street and the main shopping streets. The Bow Street Mall has a large multi-storey car park that is the easiest choice for shopping, while council-run pay-and-display car parks at Smithfield, Graham Gardens, Castle Street, Linenhall Street and Market Place spread the load on busy days. For events and the riverside, the car park at Lagan Valley Island (off the Lisburn Square approach) is handy, and the Lagan Valley LeisurePlex on Lisburn Leisure Park has its own free parking for users.

On-street pay-and-display bays are dotted along Bow Street, Castle Street, Railway Street and Market Square, and these are usually time-limited during the day. Lisburn railway station on Bachelor's Walk has Translink parking if you are heading into Belfast by train. As with most Northern Ireland towns, council off-street and most on-street charges do not apply on Sundays, and many bays are free in the evenings, which makes a trip to the restaurants around Lisburn Square or Bow Street much simpler after hours.

Lisburn parking FAQs

Is parking free in Lisburn on Sundays and in the evenings?

Yes, in most cases. Council pay-and-display car parks and on-street bays in Lisburn generally do not charge on Sundays, and on-street charging usually ends in the early evening (commonly around 6pm). Always check the specific sign or meter, as restricted bays and private car parks like Bow Street Mall can have their own hours.

Where is the best car park for shopping in Lisburn city centre?

The Bow Street Mall multi-storey is the most convenient for shopping as it sits right in the heart of the centre. If it is busy, the nearby council car parks at Smithfield, Graham Gardens, Linenhall Street and Market Place are a short walk away and often cheaper for longer stays.

Is there free parking in or near Lisburn?

Free options are limited in the immediate centre, but Lisburn Leisure Park (home to the LeisurePlex and cinema) offers free parking for visitors, as do many of the larger out-of-town retail and supermarket sites such as Sprucefield, just south of the city. Some residential streets on the edge of the centre are free but fill quickly.
